Young entrepreneurs face the challenge of creating an alternative, biodegradable materials that will replace everything from plastics to construction materials and more, such as new vegan material that could replace the use of animal skin in fashion, leather goods, furniture, and automotive industries. industry.
Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázar, Mexican entrepreneurs, recently introduced Desserto, the first organic skin made entirely from nopal cacti. Their goal was to create a viable alternative to animal skin. Desserto is partially biodegradable and meets the technical requirements of the fashion, automotive and other industries. The material is flexible, breathable, can last for more than 10 years and is an eco-friendly alternative to animal skin and synthetic materials.
“After two years of research and development, we have been able to produce sustainable material, which meets the technical-mechanical requirements required by industries using animal or synthetic leather,” said López Velarde. “Also due to its organic composition, it is breathable, which makes vegan skin similar to animal skin.”
Desserto was unveiled last month at the Milan International Leather Fair and the creators are already working with big names in different industries on its potential applications.
Well done guys!
