Teenagers Have Invented A Bacteria-destroying Door Handle

As teens, few of us have thought of inventions that could potentially change the world. But Hong Kong’s Sun and King teens are changing the way we view this group of young people.

17-year-old Sun-Min and 18-year-old King Pon recently discovered that the titanium oxide compound most effectively kills bacteria when exposed to UV light. Both teens used this knowledge to design a self-cleaning door handle.

The hull is made of a glass tube with aluminum ends. It contains the compound titanium dioxide but also has a photocatalytic layer, which means that the chemical in it reacts to UV light. The chemical reaction in the tube breaks down the bacteria found in the handle.

Young geniuses are already receiving rewards and attracting worldwide attention for their invention.
